Project

Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project

Status

Under Implementation

Project Background

Given the rapid power demand growth in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA), it became clear that the existing transmission network would, in the near future, be unable to adequately support the increasing demand for reliable and stable power supply.

Recognizing this need, the Government of Uganda through its implementing agency, UETCL, undertook the Kampala Metropolitan System Improvement Project.

Objective

To improve the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) transmission system to meet the growing power demand in the area. This will be achieved by enhancing the capacity of substations and reducing power outages in the GKMA, the heart of Uganda’s economic growth and development.
