UETCL Staff to Plant 1,000 Trees

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) in association with Uganda Tree Growers Association (UTGA) is empowering its staff to plant a total of 1,000 trees across the country by giving each staff member two seeds as part of UETCL’s afforestation program which seeks to encourage and involve employees in environmental conservation activities.

Each staff member will be given an orange and avocado seed which they are free to plant wherever they see fit giving them the option of reaping the benefits of growing trees in their own homes.

Environmental conservation is of great importance to UETCL as it satisfies one of UETCL’s core values which is “to be environmentally responsible.” This responsibility is viewed with the utmost importance because it is imperative that UETCL employees, contractors, customers and surrounding areas are not endangered.

It goes without saying that the climate across Uganda has drastically changed with the inconsistency in seasons and prolonged droughts in the region of Northern Uganda especially. Such changes can be attributed to heavy industrialization, wide scale deforestation and encroachment on wetlands.

Environmental conservation is a responsibility that everyone ought to take upon themselves as climate change affects all.

By giving staff the opportunity to plant 1,000 trees, UETCL is not only satisfying one of its core values, but it is also making its own contribution to the fight against climate change.
