UETCL Commissions 132/33kV Namanve South Industrial Park Substation
On the 26th January 2021, UETCL commissioned and energized the Namanve South Industrial Park Substation. This substation has a total transformation capacity of 189MW comprising of three power transformers which step down high voltage power from 132kV to 33kV then connects to the Umeme network. The substation is going to supply quality, reliable, stable and adequate electricity to all industries within Kampala Industrial Business Park located at Namanve hence solving all the electricity challenges the manufacturers/investors such as Roofings Ltd, Steel and Tube, Coca-Cola, Luka Plastics, Azam Industries, Kawacom, Luka Plastics, Orion Industries, Toyota Uganda, Hima Cement having been facing for a very longtime
The 132/33kV Namanve South Substation and the associated 5km, 132kV transmission line cost 23M USD, a loan from China EXIM Bank. The construction period was 28 months. The contractor was China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd and the Consultant was NEK Consults Ltd all contracted by UETCL as an implementing agency.
The above substation and the associated transmission line are part of the electrification of Industrial Parks Project Phase1 which comprises of 80MVA, 132/33kV Iganga Industrial parks Substation and the associated 18km, 132kV Transmission Line already commissioned, 169MVA, 132/33kV Mukono Industrial parks Substation and the associated 5km, 132kV Transmission Line already commissioned, 120MVA,132/33kV Luzira Industrial parks Substation and the associated 15km, 132kV Transmission Line with the projected commissioning date of 31st August 2021.
